snow day

newsman says 12 inches of snow by morning.

i say hot cocoa, movie, and a much later night than planned.  when i finally sneak to bed - turn off the last lights - i walk to the window that's glowing moon blue with snow.  there is a blizzard out there.  i smile like a child certain that tomorrow there will be no yellow bus or plastic lunch trays or hallway banter.

i watch the white light fall to the ground laying a blanket of silence.  and then i join the masses.  tuck myself into bed, eyes closed but smiling from ear to ear, sure that a snow day isn't simply absence from school, but more like someone turned a key and unlocked a door on a day that never existed.  until now.

a day from nowhere, a wormhole.  perhaps this is what it means to travel into the folds of time...
